Your will also support the Editor in leading the team: you will help manage other journalists and play a part in shaping the future of the organisation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and carry out in-depth investigations for publication by SourceMaterial and media partners across topics including business, politics, corruption and climate change
  • Work with colleagues to develop the SourceMaterial project and increase the impact of its reporting
  • Work collaboratively in a small team of experienced journalists to develop investigations under the direction of the Editor, SourceMaterial
  • Edit stories to a high standard consistent with SourceMaterial’s style and editorial code

  • Experience of planning and producing high-impact, public-interest investigations
  • Experience of managing a small team
  • A track record of published work
  • Knowledge of journalistic practice and the ability to work to the highest journalistic standards
  • The ability to generate and develop story ideas independently
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Knowledge of media law and legal risks associated with investigative reporting
  • The ability to work collaboratively, both with mainstream media partners and SourceMaterial colleagues

What we can offer you

  • The resources to carry out detailed, long-lead investigations for publication in partnership with leading media organisations
  • The opportunity to work in a team of expert journalists who combine ambition with a rigorous and results-oriented approach
  • Work in a well-equipped Central London newsroom (usually four days a week, with flexibility when necessary) and subsidised travel costs
  • A flexible environment and the space to shape and continuously develop your role
  • Initial fixed term one-year contract (with renewal subject to funding)
  • A starting salary of £55k to £65k, depending on experience
