SourceMaterial was founded in 2017 to investigate the vested interests that impede the democratic process. A small team of experienced reporters, we use in-depth journalism to uncover stories that hold the powerful to account.
We work collaboratively with partners, so far including NBC, The Times, The Guardian, The Observer, The Independent, Vice World News, openDemocracy and the BBC programmes Newsnight, File on 4 and Spotlight.
What we do:
We seek out the gaps in mainstream reporting to look where no one else is looking. We uncover the hidden actors shaping our politics, society and environment—stories that affect everyone.
How we do it:
SourceMaterial is a not-for-profit organisation funded entirely by charitable foundations. We are committed to accurate, honest, independent reporting to the highest editorial standards. We believe that good journalism has the power to bring change: to make our society fairer, more open and more sustainable.
Our work is made possible through the generous support of the Grantham Foundation, the European Climate Foundation and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation.
